Lake Champlain Completes Successful Seven-Month Deployment

SAN DIEGO (NNS) -- The guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain (CG 57) returned to its homeport of San Diego May 6, after completing a seven-month independent deployment in the U.S. 5th Fleet area of responsibility.

Unmanned Aircraft Completes Deployment

POINT MUGU, Calif. — The Navy’s Global Hawk Maritime Demonstration (GHMD) system successfully completed its first Navy deployment at Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC), Point Mugu. The unmanned aircraft system provides high-resolution, near real-time imagery and other sensor data for intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR), operating at 60,000 feet, much higher than any other operational unmanned aircraft.

EOD’s ‘Wall of Fire’ Impresses Crowd at NAF El Centro Air Show

EL CENTRO, Calif. – Sailors assigned to Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile Unit 11 (EODMU 11) detachments from Fallon, Nev., and San Diego joined together March 12 to construct a pyrotechnics display for the crowd during the 2011 Naval Air Facility (NAF) El Centro Air Show in El Centro, Calif.
